Payment receipt for an invoice
When a customer pays against an invoice, refer to the invoice number and date, the amount received and the balance still due. This stops disputes about what was paid.
Advance receipt
For an advance before supply, GST registered businesses use a receipt voucher (Rule 50) that also shows the tax on the advance where it applies. For non-GST advances, a payment receipt with “advance towards [order]” is enough.
